NAACP President Benjamin Jealous applauds Obama's call for Senate to send him a jobs bill

By DARLENE SUPERVILLE , Associated Press Writer

The president of the NAACP is applauding President Barack Obama call for the Senate to send him a jobs bill.

Benjamin Jealous said after Obama's State of the Union address Wednesday night that lawmakers were sent to Congress to solve tough problems and that right now there is no tougher problem than the lack of jobs.

The House passed a $174 billion jobs bill last month, but the Senate has yet to act. The economy shed some 7 million jobs in the two years since the start of the economic downturn.

The NAACP president also applauded Obama's commitment to school reform and his proposals for helping small businesses, community colleges and community banks.
